Lidar-based distance sensors with simple digital interfaces for detection of nearby objects. Options are available with maximum ranges of a few centimeters to a few meters.
These breakout boards for ST’s compact VLxxx lidar systems measure the time of flight (ToF) of eye-safe infrared light pulses to quickly and accurately determine the absolute distance to targets up to several meters away. Configuration and operation are done through an I²C interface.
Sharp distance sensors are inexpensive and easy to use, making them a popular choice for object detection and ranging. They typically have higher update rates and shorter maximum detection ranges than sonar range finders.

This board is a 3-channel time-of-flight proximity and distance sensor module based on the OPT3101 IC from Texas Instruments. It emits infrared light in one of three selectable directions with its six integrated LEDs and measures distance by measuring the time delay of the reflected signal. Distance measurements can be read through a digital I²C interface. The combined field of view of the three sensing zones is almost 180 degrees, and the maximum range is about one meter. This module does not include any headers; we carry an alternate version with headers soldered.

This module features a fixed-gain, 38 kHz modulated IR sensor and a corresponding IR LED with oscillator circuit to make a tiny proximity sensor. This high-brightness version draws an average of 16 mA at 5 V and has a typical sensing range up to approximately 24 inches (60 cm).

The Vishay TSSP58038 is a modulated IR receiver that is designed specifically for sensing applications instead of data communication for remote control. Unlike most similar-looking units, it has a fixed gain that makes it respond more predictably and quickly to IR light modulated at 38 kHz. They are sold in packs of three units.

The Vishay TSSP58P38 is a unique modulated IR receiver that is designed for IR brightness detection instead of data communication for remote control. This sensor can be used with a 38 kHz modulated IR emitter and the appropriate algorithms to form a distance sensor with a range of up to a few feet. They are sold in packs of three units.
